BODIE, Calif. — Visitors hoping to photograph Bodie State Historic Park from a drone should know that the historic townsite prohibits unmanned aircraft, while pets are restricted from entering historic interiors.
Rules to know before arriving
The park’s official visitor page lists a prohibition on unmanned aircraft systems, including recreational drones and quadcopters. It also says dogs may accompany visitors to the park but are not permitted inside historic buildings, including the Stamp Mill and museum.
Bodie’s buildings, artifacts and landscapes are preserved for visitors and future generations. People should avoid collecting objects, disturbing fragile structures or crossing posted barriers. Special commercial or professional filming may be subject to permit requirements distinct from ordinary personal photography.
How to avoid a wasted trip
Visitors should read the current park rules, make arrangements for pets and plan to photograph only from permitted areas. The park’s published contact number is 760-616-5040, and official conditions are available through the California State Parks webpage.
Mountain weather may change access rules and visitor services independently of photography or pet restrictions. This article describes the posted park policies and does not authorize any exception.
