BODIE, Calif. — Bodie State Historic Park is scheduled to transition from its summer visitor schedule to shorter winter hours on November 1, 2026, according to California State Parks.
Winter hours and weather
The park’s official website lists summer hours as 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 1 through November 1, and winter hours as 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., November 1 through May 1. A published schedule does not mean access is guaranteed in heavy snow or during an emergency road closure.
Bodie sits at high elevation in the eastern Sierra Nevada. In winter, snow and mud can make the approaches hazardous even when roads closer to Bridgeport are clear. State Parks advises verifying road status before traveling and not blindly following GPS suggestions on remote dirt tracks.
Plan for a remote visit
Bring warm clothing, sufficient fuel, water and food. Do not assume that museum or other interior facilities are open throughout the winter. For current conditions, call the park at 760-616-5040 or check official winter visit guidance.
