BODIE, Calif. — Visitors planning a late-fall trip to Bodie should not expect a scheduled stamp mill tour: the park’s fall 2026 interpretive notice says those tours have finished for the remainder of the year.
What is changing
On the Bodie State Historic Park website, the fall schedule says stamp mill tours have ended for 2026. History talks, when offered, depend on available staff and weather conditions. The winter visitor center and gift shop also operate according to staffing, rather than on a guaranteed daily schedule.
Earlier published October schedules included talks and tours on selected dates, but that information should not be reused to promise a late-season event after park officials have updated the listing.
Self-guided options
Visitors can still learn about Bodie’s mining past through the historic townsite and available self-guided materials, subject to road access, park opening hours and on-site restrictions. California State Parks describes Bodie as preserved in a state of “arrested decay,” with historic structures kept close to how they were left rather than transformed into a modern tourist town.
Confirm the current visitor schedule at the park website or by calling 760-616-5040. Respect barriers and do not enter closed historic interiors.
